There’s not just a single way to reduce ping of your internet connection instead there are multiple solutions i.e. it’s a trial-and-error process. Let us now see what can be done to lower the ping time. However, there is no guaranteed way to lower your ping.
Move near to the router
If using a WiFi connection then try moving your device near to the router this may increase the connection strength as the distance gets reduced and in turn, will lower the ping.
Close the background programs or websites running
Running heavy bandwidth programs like YouTube, Netflix, torrenting services, Netflix or other games have a severe impact on your ping. So if you have program or downloads running in the background then pause or cancel them.
Reduce the number of devices that use WiFi or switch to Ethernet Cable connection
Internet connections and routers are liable to support multiple devices at a time but the usage of an increased number of the devices over a single network lowers the speed you experience and in turn increases your ping. In this case, you can either reduce the number of devices or switch to an Ethernet cable connection.
Restart your router and modem
In case if your network equipment has been in prolonged usage and it has been running non-stop then it may not function properly. Detach the power cables from the router as well as the modem, hold on for 30 seconds and then re-attach them, this will get your internet connection refreshed with improved performance and potentially low ping.
Check with your Internet Service Provider for the service
Before you think of replacing the router, make sure that you check with your internet service provider and inform them about the ping issues as they might help you with an alternative solution to this.
Replace your router
In case your modem or router is few years old, then you must go ahead with replacing them with a new one and this will definitely have a positive impact on your internet connection’s strength, consistency, and speed. This, in turn, will automatically lower the ping.
Make sure that you go for proper research and find the router that is gaming specific too, before investing in the router.
Upgrade your Internet plan
Unfortunately, if none of the steps mentioned above help to decrease your ping then, you can go with the option to upgrade your internet plan and select the package with considerably higher download and upload speeds available with your Internet Service Provider.
